I really enjoy reading but I tend to do it in fits and starts. As my mother once described my reading style, when I read, I “read large”. And then I go for long periods of reading nothing at all. Sometimes I stop reading because I want to let the last book soak in; other times I’m just too lazy to start something new.
The idea of this project – reading 50 pages a day, every day, for a year – is to read consistently day in and day out. I want to see if I can do it, see if I enjoy it, see the effect on my productivity, see if I read more or less than in a typical year. I also really like to measure and record things (a touch of OCD, perhaps?) so the blog is a natural extension of the project. I know the targeted daily page count is too high and results in an absurdly ambitious page count for the year, but 50 seemed like a nice round number. Stay tuned to see how I do.
