January 27, 2011: I can’t read another book set in…

PAGES READ: 15
YEAR TO DATE: 1,139
CURRENTLY READING: Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy
BOOKS COMPLETED: 3
-211 PAGES

Claire Cameron’s response to my Netherland post reminded me of a comment my friend Kiersten once made: “I can’t read another book set in Ireland. Or India. Or the Maritimes.” I know what she means. At the moment, I’m a bit sick of reading books set in post-9/11 New York, each striving to be the quintessential book of that time and place. And after Anna, I might have to add 19th century Russia to that list. We’ll see.
